Our Mission
The Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities is a private not-for-profit disability organization formed in Mississippi in 1989 made up of Mississippians with disabilities (children, youth, and adults) and their families regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, economic status or religion, organizations that represent or advocate for people with disabilities, professionals who work in disability-related fields, and other interested citizens. It is the mission of the Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities to expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life for children, adolescents and adults with disabilities and their families and empower these individuals to reach for their full potential in every aspect of life and to be a voice for families, advocates, consumers and professional representing the interests and needs of people with disabilities.

The Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities is guided by the vision that one day, all people will live, work, learn and play in a community based on abilities not disabilities.

“Opening Doors Together"
The Coalition's motto relates two important messages:
1. That the Coalition strives to "open" opportunities or resources necessary to permit persons with disabilities to overcome or otherwise compensate for any barrier that may exist.
2. That "together" (meaning all people with disabilities and their families) we can surmount any problem that the system has created.

The Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) strives to guarantee that persons with disabilities have the same options as their non-disabled peers and that they are able to participate actively in their communities. As importantly, the Coalition seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities and their families are empowered to make their own decisions and that the choices they have available to them are comparable, adequate, and appropriate.
